My husband actually walks from home to reach the woods. That's too far for my feet to cope with, but I can cycle there.

There are downsides to living in a rural area. For example if you like films or the theatre you looking at a 1 hour drive and even then you won't get the big productions. Neither are there art galleries or museums or big shops etc. etc. But you can't have everything and we are happy to live without the conveniences of city life in exchange for the beautiful woods and mountains.
