The weekly walk

I was still not feeling 100% after the shingles jab and a busy week, so last Saturday I drove us to the car park near Ganllwyd and we did a favourite walk in the forest that doesn't commit you to doing a particular distance. If I felt wobbly, we could turn back at any point. However, after walking for a while I felt much better so we walked up one side of the Afon Gain and back down the other side.
Photo taken near the start of the walk. We ignored the bridge on the way out, but after walking back down the opposite side of the valley, we it crossed when we were on our way back to the car park.

We stuck to the broad forestry track both on the way out and the way back. There were quite a few cyclists around as the morning wore on. I noticed these trees at the top of the steep bank. They really have very little in the way of deep roots due to very shallow soil.

The Afon Mawddach which enters the sea at the spectacular Mawddach Estuary is much smaller nearer the source. This is looking upstream and shows the first signs of autumn colour.

And this is looking downstream. Both shots taken from the same bridge.

Pistyll Cain. I can never resist photographing this splendid waterfall.

However, I didn't climb out along the precarious ledge. I've been there, done that and so I heeded the warning signs. There are new signs and new fencing after a few accidents at this location.

There's another bridge here to cross the Afon Gain and hence from there down the other side of the valley and back to the car park.
