The bike ride to Quaker meeting went very well indeed. The weather was lovely and it's just 2 miles to the village hall which I did in about 20 minutes. (I don't cycle very fast!) The car goes into the garage tomorrow, but they may need to order a part (worst case scenario), so it might not be fixed until next week. I'm assuming that everything has to be done on foot at the moment, just in case.

Yesterday I went into town to meet an American woman J who is staying in Wales for a couple of weeks. Somehow, last year, I ended up in an email conversation with her about meeting and showing her round the Quaker locations. It didn't work out then because she was ill and her arrangements had to be changed and the weather wasn't good, but this time everything is going to plan. J is very religious, but not in the way that tries to push religion onto other people, it's just obviously very important to her. We had a good chat over a cup of tea. She'll be back in town at the end of the week (she was just passing through yesterday), so on Saturday I'm going to take her round the walk I've devised which visits quite a few of the local Quaker sites, including Bryn Mawr, which of course is of interest to an American because the local farm gave it's name to the well known women's college in Pennsylvania.

In further watch news, G spotted a watch he liked on Ebay. It's second hand but being sold by someone who obviously runs a second hand watch business. It was starting at only £39 so we waited with bated breath until the end of the auction, hoping that no one else would want it. I put in a bid in the final 2 minutes, no one else bid and so it was ours for a reasonable price.

And then, believe it or not, my watch stopped! I assumed it was just a dead battery. I started changing the battery myself during the pandemic when the shops were closed and I actually had a spare in the drawer. (Why do they sell watch batteries in packs of two when you will only want one at a time?) Unfortunately the new battery didn't help, so I think that after many years of service, the watch had just given up. I then discovered that the exact same model is still available and ordered one from John Lewis. It arrived today and it's fine.

I'm just hoping nothing else decides to break or stop working, at least for a week or two.
