General election results
Jul. 5th, 2024 05:34 pmWe had no intention of staying up to watch the results as they came in. We just waited for the exit poll at 10 p.m. which was very promising, then went to bed. I always wake in the night at least once to visit the bathroom. Normally I try to go straight back to sleep, but last night I went online using my tablet to see what was happening and was delighted to see how badly the Tories had done and that Reform only got 4 seats, not the predicted 13.
I'm delighted that I now live in a Tory free country. Even staunchly Conservative Pembrokeshire voted Labour, so there isn't a single Tory MP in Wales. Our lovely Plaid Cymru MP retained her seat and now there are four Plaid MPs.
I am mildly hopeful that even if things don't immediately get better, at least things might stop getting worse now we have a government that might actually govern the country rather than behaving as though they're in some political version of Big Brother or Love Island. I have had more than enough of the Tory psychodrama.
