Yesterday we did the longest of our forest walks which is just under 6½ miles. Only a few photos because it's not the most photogenic of walks, being mostly hemmed in by trees.

The weather was perfect for walking: dry and sunny but only about 17C which is much better than last week's 26C. We did the walk that goes up one side of the valley, past the Pistyll Cain waterfall and then back down the other side. As the half-term holiday is over, it was much quieter, but as the morning wore on, we did meet some walkers and cyclists. The visitors always start out later than we do, presumably because they're on holiday and like to have a lie in and linger over breakfast.

There are some very tall and stately trees in the Coed y Brenin.

Tall trees

The nice thing about walking in the forest is that there's lots of shade. I've never been one for sunbathing or trying to tan. I just burn. Walking in strong sunshine means long sleeves and a sun hat. I'm not a fan of sunscreen because I don't like to feel sticky.

Shady forest

We talked about doing an all day forest walk of about 10 miles, but we'd need to take a picnic and have a couple of rest stops if I'm to do it, though I think it would be possible.
