Those of you who have been reading my LJ/DW for any length of time will be aware that I've gone on walks in quite wild places. Less so in recent years, but while G was writing his geology book we went exploring quite wild country, skirting bogs, scrambling up craggy hillsides and even following disintegrating footpaths across the face of slate tips. And not once did I injure myself.

All my injuries (all minor like sprained ankles and wrists and twisted knee) happened in supposedly safe and easy places to walk.

The latest was the Friday before I had arranged to take the American Judy on the long walk round the Quaker locations. I'd started the car, driven out of our parking area and several warning lights had lit up. I had therefore abandoned the car and walked to the Co-op to get the iPaper for M (my elderly friend). I was walking back through the park when my left foot just slipped off the path. My ankle was wrenched a bit, but after limping a couple of steps, it seemed OK, so I walked up the hill to meet friends, then walked back down. But that night it started hurting and I was cursing myself because I didn't think I should do a long walk on a sprained ankle. I consoled myself that at least I had the car and so could still take J round the places of interest, even if we didn't do it as one continuous walk. Fortunately, by the next morning, when I put my shoes on it felt fine, so the walk went ahead as planned. It has been fine since.

Then on Wednesday, I thought I'd strim a bit more of the back garden and though I didn't notice it at the time, I must have pulled a muscle in my shoulder because by evening it was very painful. I didn't sleep too well that night because despite applying Ibuleve, it was difficult to get comfortable. The shoulder was OK most of yesterday, but a little sore by the evening, so I took Paracetomol. It's been fine so far today, but I won't do any more strimming until next week, just to be on the safe side.

Bodies, really. Sleep in the wrong position and they have fits. Hope things stay calm.

Yes, it's bad enough when cars start flashing a warning, but when your body starts doing it too, it is so frustrating!

I hope rest and paracetomol do the trick.

I see above that it seems to be okay today. I hope you continue having good luck on your walks, too.

I'm glad you're bouncing back well. Your conclusions certainly seem consistent with my experiences - I can have all sorts of minor accidents around my house, when I'm moving too quickly with my mind elsewhere.

An unaccustomed strimmer caused me a disabling frozen shoulder while I was pregnant and I have never used one since. You never know what will set one off, but warding off this kind of thing is what the gym is good for.
